Etymology: Pourpre = purple. It is a cuvée name not a lieu-dit.
Size: 0.52 ha (1.28 ac)
Varieties: Field blends of approximately 50% each of Pinot Noir and Gamay.
Vine Age: Planted from 1971 to 2001
Terroir: Rouge Champs (across the road from the southwest corner of Clos Vougeot); Pièce des Paquiers (near Flagey-Echezeaux); Genevrays (near Gilly-lès-Citeaux).
Viticulture: Uncertified biodynamic
Vinification: 50% whole-cluster, ambient yeast ferment, three to four pigeages in total; aged in oak barrels (10% new) for 12 to 18 months. Since 2016, very moderate sulfur additions: none during vinification, a little during élevage and before bottling, for a total of 15 to 20 ppm.
