"A glowing mid purple, much more density than Pitures as more clay in the soil. Impressive energy on the nose. This is gorgeous, with a supple but concentrated expression of red berry fruit which fills the palate and covers any tannins at the finish. Very typical Volnay with more presence this year than I can remember. Best they have ever made? I certainly cannot remember a more impressive Mitans. Drink from 2032-2040" Jasper Morris 93-95p
"Two parcels come together here—one is 45 years old and the other is 73. It's a balletic Mitans with succulent acidity, smooth mid-palate fruit and lightly dusty tannins. Red berries meet crushed chalk and baking spices, all lasting into the generous, palate-coating finish." Tim Atkin 94p
"Note: from Mitans proper; destemmed manually. A more elegant and airier nose is comprised by very fresh aromas of mostly red berry, floral and spice wisps. The caressing and lacy yet nicely punchy and rich middleweight flavors possess a lovely sense of harmony on the moderately firm and beautifully balanced finale that stays on the palate an impressively long time. This is lovely and understated, in fact, it's very Mitans.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" Burghound 92-94p
"The 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans is rich and layered, exhibiting aromas of cherries, sweet spices, orange zest and peony. Medium to full-bodied, deep and enveloping, it's built around sweet, powdery tannins. The 2022 vintage was showing well during my annual barrel tasting chez Lafarge, emphasizing the charming, pretty side of the year. The team began picking on August 26, another early harvest. As usual, reds were destemmed, in some cases manually, and élevage is taking place in predominantly used barrels, with the Lafarge's habitual racking with aeration. The result is wines with a resolutely old-school style that have a good track record of evolving gracefully in the cellar." Wine Advocate 92-93p
